We all carry around a picture in our minds, where we imagine life as it will one day be, a nice white picket fenced house with a quaint little garden, peaceful days spent reading a book or playing an instrument and possibly catching up with a cosy bunch of good old friends who unwind together when the sun has set and dusk is finally settling over the land.
That’s usually the distant dream most of us carry around in our hearts envisaging the day when we’ll actually come around to realising it.
But how often do we make these distant dreams a reality?
Some might shake their head with a poignant ‘no’ while some might think to themselves ‘it’s a dream…a work in progress’. Yet there will be some others who might be reading this perched comfortably in a nice white picket fence house. It could be someone you knew or it could be your friend’s friend or it could be your colleague, two cubicles down.
Or it could possibly even be you.
In which case you are among the distinct set of people who believe in making their dreams a reality and who enjoy living that reality, every single day.
The white picket fenced house
The house of your dreams need not be a towering mansion with multiple bedrooms, sprawling gardens and servants bustling about but rather a cosy home that has been built brick by brick, step by step, under the care and love of a person who envisages the house as not his house but his true home.
Call it a weekend home or the home of your dreams- it’s yours either way
Very often we are restricted to living in uninspiring cubby holes that have been designed and made for those who like a vanilla lifestyle. Office to home and home to office. However, how much of life is there to live in this sort of an existence?
There are those, nonetheless, who prefer to live in a home that’s been custom built according to the size and measurement of their imaginings. Those of them who prefer to see those imaginings come to life in their weekend home.
Naysayers believe that a weekend home is a very time-consuming and tedious process, one that leaves you exhausted. However, it need not be like that, not when there are smarter and thriftier ways and means of planning and constructing your home, built to specs.
You’re the artist- Go on, make it new
As a rule of thumb, when you’re planning to build your weekend home it is always better to start with a basic outline of your plan. By this we mean defining your personal preferences and the needs of your immediate families and friends and planning your day so as to ensure you can devote dedicated time during the construction phase.
Once you’ve got that in hand do ensure that you keep the following things in mind
Go with a plotting project that will also double up as a weekend getaway home and a nest egg too
Why take the risk of building your house in a place that will be inaccessible and too far flung for you to enjoy. Opt for plotting projects that come with pre-sanctioned approvals and authorizations within your home city itself. There are many options that offer a good mix of peace and serenity coupled with convenience and accessibility. Besides, you save yourself the headache of running from pillar-to-post for approvals, land owner verifications and lengthy documentations.
Choose something that will suit your needs as a nest egg when you plan your retirement or when you simply want to take a short vacation to re-energise yourself.
Adhere to the ‘two’– What this means is quite simple, look for a plotting project that serves the two most crucial factors you’re resolute on. Either it could be a plethora of recreational spaces or the distance to travel to work, whatever the individual case may be, ensure that the plotting project will fulfil these ‘two’ mandatory factors and only then look at the frills offered.
There have been one too many cases of people falling for the frills first only to regret their choice in leisure.
Plan for a home design that suits your personality– If you’re drawn to Spartan like structures or are more interested in luxurious bespoke designs, make certain that your architect draws up a plan after he/she has understood your concerns and needs precisely.
Ideally, a rough sketch or similar styled houses should be shown to the architect so that there is no mismatch in the final blueprint. This is one of the most crucial and important steps you will take towards your dream home.
