A Smart City Project
In the year 2015 on June 25 Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 100 smart cities mission to develop 100 cities to have better water supply, electricity supply, sanitation, waste management, urban mobility to its best, good public transport system, affordable housing for the poor, IT connectivity, sustainable and safe environment, health and education. A smart city is a project undertaken by the Indian government to renew the cities to make them look smarter and become a bench mark for other cities to become the same. The Indian Government has laid down a few guidelines that is required to be followed to develop a city in to a smart city. It is the same all over the country for the 100 selected cities.
Chennai Smart City: Retrofitting of the present city
The city though is in a developed state yet requires retrofitting of the civic amenities of the city. The guidelines that are laid out for Chennai Smart City project is to retrofit redevelop and lay out Greenfields project. The city being completely a concrete jungle the redevelopment and green field’s project are not possible so the corporation is looking at retrofitting the city in full swing. The retrofitting of the city has been prioritized on public transport, education, public health, and civic infrastructure. The corporation has integrated traffic management and parking management system in the city for the betterment of the civic body of the city. This has been included by the corporation in order to improve the traffic in the city in congested places like TNagar. The guidelines of the Chennai Smart city are simple yet intricate as it will involve a lot of work on the already available infrastructure in the city. It is important that the guidelines are met through so the city will get better facilities in the coming days.
